About the methodology
Full assessment of patient
Before the start of AudioTherapy sessions, a complex study of patient psychological features is conducted: patient's needs during a hemodialysis session, their musical preferences and cultural level are properly assessed
Recognition of exact needs
The patient's psychological state is
assessed by next parameters:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Locus control
  • Coping strategies
Key psychological tests

Testing is based on approved
psychological questionnaires:

  • Beck Depression Inventory
  • Lazarus ways of coping questionnaire
  • Rotter’s Internal-External Locus of Control Scale
  • State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI by C. Spielberger, R.L. Gorsuch, and R.E. Lushene)
How it works?
Questionnaire before a session
Testing and conversation with the patient before each session to identify patient's physical condition, mood and preferences
Questionnaire before a session
Testing and conversation with the patient before each session to identify patient's physical condition, mood and preferences
Playlist selection
  • There are 4 types of playlists, every of which includes 5 tracks: 1st, 3rd and 5th are classical music, 2nd and 4th are sounds of nature
  • Playlist is chosen on the base of test results
Listening to playlist
  • Playlist duration is about 20 minutes
  • Listening to playlists happens at a comfortable volume level and with the help of separate players and headphones during hemodialysis sessions
Feedback after session
  • Feedback is needed from both the patient and the treating physician
  • Based on the feedback, the AudioTherapy course is adjusted and wishes for listening in the next session are taken into account
  • Allows to maintain the correct vector of the AudioTherapy course for the patient
Adjustment of the therapy course
  • At the ending of listening, the patient's condition is compared before and after listening (assessment of self-feeling, patient's mood on a visual analogue scale)
  • Selection of the next playlist takes place according to the wishes of the patient with the approval of the specialist
Scientific probations
Tested: listening to playlists has a statistically significant effect on reducing the levels of situational and personal anxiety and depression
80%

93%

Mike Kelly, Psychological Care Consultant in European Dialysis and Transplant Nurses Association / European Renal Care Association (EDTNA/ERCA)
Audiotherapy is an ideal addition to a dialysis session. The patient is immersed in bright images, which create a more calm and constructive background of dialysis time. A nurse is only involved in monitoring the procedure, the doctor is treating, so no one does not need to perform additional functions of comfort and support, which is often the case for the patient.
K. Vishnevskiy, Head of hemodialysis department of the hospital
I did not want to leave until the audio was finished.
Igor, Hemodialysis patient
This music gives me back a sense of youth and strength!
